Girl up is a global organisation which provides youth with the tools, training and community to build their leadership and come up with new, innovative solutions to problems of the society. Girl up has been conducting WiSci (Women in Science) camps from 2015. The main aim of the program is to reduce the gender gap in STEAM fields. And I’m extremely grateful to have been a part of the WiSci Steam (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) camp 2024. It brought together 100 girls from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and the United States. The camp this year was conducted in partnership with US Department of State (Office of Global Partnerships), US Consulate General – Chennai, Caterpillar Foundation, Google, TE Connectivity, United Airlines and hosted by Rajagiri Business School, Kochi.
The camp was an opportunity to spend time with some of the best Mentors, Counsellors, Women in STEAM and girls of your age with the same mindset of changing the society. We were provided with leadership sessions, interaction with women in science, problem solving period and a chance to present our own group projects based on SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities). On top of thar we also had speed friendship sessions to get to know people from different countries. All in all, it was an amazing opportunity to be with so many girls who are united because of their passion for Science and Society.
